What sacrifices would we be prepared to make if the image of the perfect companion we had been waiting for all our lives appeared on the horizon? The Orpheus story, recorded on a beautiful 35-mm film, with impeccable symmetry, was put forward by Hungary for this year’s Best Foreign Language Film. "Preparations to be Together for an Unknown Period of Time" is a pre-selection for EFA's Best Feature Film of the Year.

"It's a musical fantasy, a mix of comedy, love and sex, a monster, a child and some corpses," in the words of the eccentric French director Leos Carax himself. Henry is a stand-up comedian who forms a passionate and enviable coupling with opera singer Anna until their child is born. "Annette" opened this year's Cannes Film Festival and is one of the Oscar favourites this year.

The Danish indie film "A Thousand Hours" is a cinematic and positively melodramatic soundtrack for a whole generation of dreamers: the confused, the lost and those burning with life. Carl Moberg, a graduate of the Skurup Folk High School in Sweden, considers the combination of image and music and the feeling and stories that music tell of to be the deepest of artistic experiences. His first feature film is about musicians and with a soundtrack written by a number of young Scandinavian artists.

Against a backdrop of warm summer rocks in the charming nature of the Finnish archipelago, a passionate betrayal takes place, which is finally understood and accepted, and thus a dark autumn and a harsh winter must come before the new hot summer. The film is based on the novel "The Vicar's Wife" by the Finnish writer Juhani Aho, but the action is contemporary. Even today, a woman must ask herself: do I dare to be completely honest with myself?
