The Creative Triangle: Directing, Acting & Camera

5-day workshop by Philippe Ros: Developing the relationship between directors, technicians and actors

16-20 July 2024 (POSTPONED TO AUTUMN 2024)
Baltic Film School, Tallinn, Estonia

While the relationship between director and actor is well known, documented and emphasized in most acting schools, the relationship between actors, directors and technicians is barely explored. Actors almost never ask what lens is used on a camera. They rarely know the difference between a wide-angle and a telephoto lens and how this can interact with their own performance. Philippe Ros designed this workshop to establish and perfect this relationship between the three sides of this triangle: directing, acting, camera.

Through the shooting of mini-sequences, the workshop will explore the relationship between the actor's field of play and the camera's field of view involving lenses, movements, eyelines as well as timing and continuity.

For the actors, it is important to understand the technical requirements imposed by the camera. For the director and the technicians understanding the rhythm and beats (segments) of a scene gives an entirely different approach to making the right decisions, especially for breakdown.

The exclusive workshop welcomes only up to 20 young professionals – directors, technicians (in camera, lighting and sound departments), actors. It is not an option you want to pass by, so sign up!
