PÖFF 2021 Lifetime Achievement award recipient, the legendary 91-year old director Carlos Saura, passed away on February 10, 2023.

Carlos Saura was born on January 10, in Huesca, Spain. In total, Carlos Saura created almost 50 films, which collected awards from almost all of the major famous festivals. Cría Cuervos won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 1976, and Deprisa, Deprisa earned him a Golden Bear at the 1981 Berlin Film Festival. He is a three-time Oscar nominee for Mama turns 100, Carmen and Tango.

In 2022, Saura’s art documentary Walls Can Talk screened at the doc@PÖFF. The film is a personal art journey starting from the first graphic revolutions of prehistoric caves to the most avant-garde urban expressions. The film was the last Saura completed before his death.
