Music in TV and Film: How Music Supervisors and Composers Work

26 May 2025
Terminal Records&Bar (Telliskivi 60/2, Tallinn)

On May 26, Tier Music will host a masterclass featuring two renowned figures from the music and film industry: music supervisor Thomas Golubić and composer Blake Neely.

Thomas Golubić is an award-winning music supervisor known for creating soundtracks for acclaimed series such as Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead, and Six Feet Under. He combines extensive musical knowledge with skillful storytelling. His work has led to iconic moments in modern pop culture, such as the final scene of Six Feet Under, which is often regarded as one of the best series finales ever. This scene also helped launch the career of Australian singer Sia, whose song Breathe Me became an instant hit after its placement. Check Thomas Golubić earliest works here.

Blake Neely is an Emmy-winning composer, conductor, and producer with a diverse portfolio that includes over 40 films and television series. He has composed music for notable series like Masters of the Air (Apple TV+) and The Flight Attendant (HBO Max), the documentary Pamela: A Love Story (Netflix), and the film Greyhound, starring Tom Hanks. His work also encompasses series in the DC Universe, such as The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl. Neely has received seven Primetime Emmy® Award nominations, winning one for the theme song of The Flight Attendant. He began his career collaborating with legends like Hans Zimmer and Michael Kamen and now runs his studio, Cow On the Wall Studios, where he supports the development of upcoming composers and the future of audiovisual music. This masterclass is designed for musicians, composers, producers, music entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and anyone involved in audiovisual content creation. It will provide a comprehensive overview of the process of integrating music with visuals. Participants will learn about initial briefs and tasks, how composers interpret and start their work, the commercial and financial aspects of collaborations, and effective communication with the film crew. The masterclass is ideal for those interested in creating musical elements that enhance visuals and strengthen narratives. Additionally, the event will offer a brief overview of music licensing and synchronization.

At the end of the masterclass, Thomas and Blake will open the stage up for an AMA session (Ask Me Anything), so if any questions have been left unanswered during the day, there’s a chance to still get them.
