How to present a poem, traditionally intimately connected with written word, in an audiovisual format? Poetry Shorts gives the stage to filmmakers and poets who choose to grapple with this question and put a poem at the centre of gravity of their films. Aside that, well your hands are free. The cassette welcomes experimentation, folly, working with a spontaneous collective or solitary refinement, moving bodies or standing thoughtful trees – surprise so the meaning of a poem will become a little wider!

And that is not all! The cassette will be followed by a discussion with invited guests to reflect on the effect of encountering poetry in an audio-visual format.

The film explores home video archives, seeking to move beyond nostalgia. In my father’s camcorder tapes, I discovered a recurring motif - a clock tower - that becomes the emotional thread of the work. Interwoven with scenes of family and mountain life, the tower reflects the passage of time and the tension between capturing memories and accepting their transience, shifting attention from those in front of the camera to the one behind it.

Constructed around selected passages from a Charles Bukowski poem, the film recontextualizes an existing text to create new, unusual resonances, by reservedly watermarking the presence of the contemporary technological ecosystem, a ghostly implication against which the poet's words acquire coarse relief, hinting at the sociological impact of technologically-induced human irrelevance.

A person in his mid-life struggles to reconcile the uncertainty of life and the inevitability of death after losing a loved one. Between the silence of absence and the weight of memory, he needs to confront the pain of separation. The film is a meditation on grief and love and the fragile hope that remembrance can keep the departed alive.
