Maria Douza studied Byzantine Literature in Athens and Film Direction at the National Film & TV School of England. When she returned to Greece, she started working as Commercials, Social Awareness Spots and Documentaries Director, while developing a number of Feature Scripts. In 2008, she joined production company Steficon as in-house Film Director, making cultural videos, commercials, and documentaries. In 2013, she wrote and directed her first feature, The Tree and the Swing which represented Greece in many European Union Film Festivals (Chicago, Toronto, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, India etc.) and enjoyed both domestic and international distribution. Since then, Maria has directed three Documentaries, spots for the Attica Region promotional campaign, a 54 episode History Series for Hellenic Parliament TV Channel, and her second feature film Listen to be released in 2023. Maria is now working on her next film, End Point, an anti-war political fantasy feature which she hopes to shoot in 2024. Her first film The Tree and the Swing, renamed A Place Called Home was recently bought by NETFLIX.
