Bloody Tennis
Sophie joins a tennis academy, where the brutality of competitive sports is taken to its extreme.
Sophie (Sandra Guldberg Kampp), a promising athlete from Detroit, gets into a prestigious tennis academy, where she hopes she will finally get closer to her dream of becoming an elite athlete. However, behind the impeccable installations and intensive training, she finds a community dominated by competition, pressure, and brutality, which surpass the boundaries of sport. As the rivalry between the six girls with whom she plays increases, Sophie realises she will have to choose between winning and reaching Wimbledon or conserving her own humanity.
Directed by Nikias Chryssos (“Der Bunker”, “Rave On”), this supernatural body-horror, with an original score by Julia Ducournau’s regular composer, Jim Williams, transforms its microcosmos into a battle for survival, where even a tennis match might be a life-or-death situation.
With a strong performance by Sandra Guldberg Kampp, the film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.
