Oliver Laxe (1982) is a French-born Spanish film director, screenwriter and actor of Galician descent. He grew up between France and Galicia after his family returned to Spain when he was six. After completing his studies in Audiovisual Communication in Barcelona, he moved to Tangier, Morocco, where he self-produced and filmed “Todos vós sodes capitáns” (“You All Are Captains”, 2010), a film that earned him the FIPRESCI Prize at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2010. In 2016, he received the Grand Prize of the Critics’ Week in Cannes for "Mimosas”. In 2019 he directed “O que arde” (“Fire Will Come”) which won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. His latest film, “Sirât” (2025), premiered in competition at Cannes and earned the Jury Prize, making Laxe the only Spanish filmmaker to win at every one of his participations at the festival.
