Elisa Estonia has been a major sponsor of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) for nine years, driven by a shared goal of providing unforgettable experiences to audiences of all ages and promoting Estonian culture. According to Elisa, PÖFF has been a consistent window into the world of arthouse cinema for them and many Estonians since 1997, introducing films that were previously unknown and underappreciated. Each year, the festival brings new and unique experiences, broadening horizons and offering the chance to explore the deeper layers of art of filmmaking. Many memories made at the festival linger long after it ends.
As a major sponsor, Elisa Estonia’s dream and mission is to help PÖFF’s message and values resonate with society as widely as possible. Arthouse films offer new perspectives and enrich cultural experiences, and Elisa Estonia aims to ensure that these films reach as many Estonians as possible, serving as a source of inspiration and a platform for cultured conversation.
Why is Elisa Estonia supporting the cultural sector today?
A responsible society thrives on collaboration and shared values, which are deeply rooted in our culture. That is why Elisa supports initiatives that promote Estonian culture.
Elisa also directly contributes to the sustainability of Estonian culture by creating and offering local audiovisual productions and supporting the art of filmmaking. Elisa has grown to become the largest creator of original Estonian content, offering a wide variety of high-quality entertainment on their platforms and through partnerships. Their ambition, however, extends beyond this, as Elisa places great importance on international collaboration, which helps to elevate the quality of Estonian TV series and increase Estonia’s global presence. In Elisa's view, PÖFF, as a top-tier film festival, is one of Estonia’s most prestigious calling cards in this sector.
Elisa Original Series Premiere
For the sixth consecutive year, PÖFF is offering the premiere of an Elisa original series. This unique tradition allows Estonian series to shine among world-class films. This year, the featured series is the psychological drama “Varastatud lootus: Armukelm” (Stolen Hope: The Love Fraud), a collaboration between Elisa and Estonian Television, inspired by several true stories. The series was created by Tambet Tuisk, who also serves as the director and co-writer.
Previously, the festival has premiered Elisa series such as The Traitor (2019), In the Line of Fire (2020), Guilt (2021), The Pilot (2022), and “Täiuslik sõbranna” (The Perfect Girlfriend, 2023). All of these series are available on Elisa Huub.
Elisa as a film
When asked what kind of film could be made about Elisa itself, CEO Andrus Hiiepuu answered that if Elisa were a film, it would belong to the adventure genre, with elements initially resembling science fiction that gradually finds its way from the cinema screen into everyday life. It would be a visually and narratively dynamic story focused on connecting people and innovation. “The heroes of the film would be all of Elisa’s nearly one thousand employees who work together towards a common goal: to bring people closer through technology and make their lives easier and better,” said Hiiepuu.
