Eesti Goethe Instituut

The Goethe-Institut presents a diverse selection of German films through its ongoing programmes in cinemas, on online platforms, and at festivals. With these programmes, the Goethe-Institut invites audiences to discover the depth and creativity of German filmmaking.

Our work fosters mutual understanding, as cultural engagement initiates dialogue and addresses social ambivalences and complexities in a unique way. That’s why we especially look forward to the Black Nights Film Festival each year – with its wide range of films, guests, and topics from Germany and around the world.

The Goethe-Institut Tallinn has been a partner of PÖFF since the institute’s founding in 1999. Together, we have organized silent film series, short film programs, summer cinema events, Q&As with filmmakers, and for many years, the “Uus saksa film” series – our archive holds countless flyers, posters, photos, and thank-you gifts. German films have regularly appeared in PÖFF’s Official Selection, First Feature Competition, and Rebels With A Cause, showcasing both established actors and emerging voices. German short films and animations have frequently featured in PÖFF Shorts, as well as children’s and youth productions in the Just Film sections. We also greatly value the festival, as many German talents have launched their international careers here.

From August to November each year, we proudly feel part of the festival team. Together with our local partner, the Tartu Saksa Kultuuri Instituut, we are once again presenting German cinema in Tallinn and Tartu this year.
