The Black Nights Film Festival has joined the fellow organisations from across the European film and audiovisual sector in issuing a joint statement calling for the protection of the Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme as the EU prepares the new AgoraEU Programme.
Celebrating its 35th anniversary, MEDIA is described as a key driver of cultural diversity, independent production, and the global reach of European films. The sector is urging the European Parliament and Member States to preserve its core mission and ensure a strong, clearly defined MEDIA+ strand.
The statement highlights concerns over budget uncertainty, the need to keep audiovisual funding distinct from news media, and the importance of predictable support schemes. Industry representatives stress that MEDIA+ must build on the programme’s success to remain effective in a changing landscape
A strong Creative Europe MEDIA programme is not only a cultural necessity. It is also a strategic investment in European sovereignty, innovation, jobs and soft power. MEDIA is a pillar of Europe’s cultural and democratic ambitions.
