PÖFF's Discovery Campus training program invites top filmmakers from the film world to lectures and workshops

The international training program Discovery Campus organized by Black Nights Film Festival and Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event invites young film professionals and students to take part in lectures, master classes and workshops by several internationally recognized mentors at the end of November. Famous mentors of the program include American composer William Goldstein, director Andrea Pallaoro, film artist Brunella De Cola and others.

According to Triin Tramberg, head of Discovery Campus, the program offers a unique opportunity for young Estonians as well as experienced filmmakers to update their knowledge, meet mentors and make new contacts. "Although some parts of the program are closed only to pre-selected participants, each program has several open events - master classes, workshops - where anyone can participate. Directors, screenwriters, actors, composers of film music as well as film artists are welcome," she adds.
20-23. The Discover Campus program, which runs until the end of November, consists of four parts: Music Meets Film, Black Nights Stars, Script Pool and Black Room.

Music Meets Film, which is taking place for the 11th time already this year, features one of the biggest names, a renowned composer and pianist William Goldstein. On November 21, the highlight of the program will be the composer's unique instant scoring concert at the Arvo Pärt Center, where Goldstein will create live music for Jaan Tootsen's film "Fred Jüssi. The beauty of being", seeing the film work in the concert hall for the first time.

In addition, Music Meets Film presents an international recognised prize - the MMF Award - to one talented composer. The competition is open to anyone aged 30 or younger who creates an original soundtrack for a video clip that demonstrates their compositional skills and musical creativity. The deadline for participation in the competition is November 17, 2022.

The three-day Black Nights Stars program brings eight talented young actors together with the top actors of the film industry, casting directors and representatives of international talent agencies. In addition, the actors participate in workshops and acquire the necessary knowledge for an international career. This year, seven talented young actors from the Baltic Sea countries will take part in the program, including Lena Barbara Luhse, an actress from Vanemuise who has appeared in several films, and Maarja Johanna Mägi, who played in the "Apteeker Melhiori" film trilogy. In addition, interested Estonian actors are invited to meetings with international casting directors.

As part of the Script Pool aimed at young screenwriters, directors and producers, Andrea Pallaoro, the director and Eleonora Granata, director of "Monica", which was screened at the Venice Film Festival in autumn and received a nomination for the best film, will give a master class. As part of the Script Pool screenplay competition, participating teams receive the necessary guidance and feedback from recognized mentors to increase the production and distribution success of their film project. A film script by Estonian authors is also participating in the competition, which was inspired by a dance production previously created by the authors and received support from the Estonian Film Institute.

In addition, the Black Room will host a master class course for selected costume designers by film artist Brunella De Cola, who will also give an open lecture. Brunella De Cola is currently working on Wes Anderson's new film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar* (2023), her previous credits include Anderson's Isle of Dogs, Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, the Hollywood blockbuster Fast X" et al.
