Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival announces with deep sadness that the well-known Serbian actor Žarko Laušević died on November 15.

His latest film "Heroes of Halyard" is part of PÖFF's focus program „Serbia and SEE* Neighbours”.

We dedicate all the screenings of this film to the memory of the actor.

Laušević made his big screen debut in 1982, when he played in Živorad Žika Mitrović's film „Savamala”. His breakthrough film was Dejan Šorak's „The Officer with a Rose” in 1987, for which he received generous acclaim, including the Best Actor award at the Pula Film Festival.

In the 1980s, Laušević became one of Yugoslavia's most popular film actors.

Estonian audience should also remember the actor with a tragic life from the children's film "How I Learned to Fly" as part of the Just Film program last year.

In Radoš Bajić's film "Heroes of Halyard", Laušević plays a father, whose sons are divided into opposing camps during the Second World War - brother fights against brother, just as the Serbian nation is divided.

The film is based on a true story about the rescue operation of American pilots shot down in Germans rear.

Laušević died in Belgrade after a short serious illness. He was 63 years old.
