The prestigious Venice Film Festival has selected Slovak director Tereza Nvotová’s feature Father (Isa) for its competitive “Horizons” section. The project was first introduced to the international industry at PÖFF’s co-production market, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, in 2021.
Last year, PÖFF also showcased Father at the Marché du Film in Cannes as part of its “Goes to Cannes” selection, presenting it to sales agents, distributors, and festival programmers. It was one of five projects chosen for this spotlight.
“This wonderful news once again proves the important role PÖFF plays in supporting films on their journey from development to the international stage,” said Triin Tramberg, curator of PÖFF Goes to Cannes.
Inspired by real events, Father is a psychological drama about a man who, on a hot summer day, forgets his two-year-old daughter locked inside a car—only to realize his mistake too late. The film is a Slovak-Czech-Polish co-production and will also be screened in the PÖFF programme this autumn.
Nvotová, 37, previously presented her debut feature Filthy (Räpane) at PÖFF in 2017.
The 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) will take place from 7–23 November 2025.
