Nordic Hotel Forum has been the heart of the PÖFF events and the home hotel for foreign guests since 2008 - 16 brilliant years! We asked Nordic Hotel Forum's Hotel Manager Feliks Mägus what makes PÖFF special in his eyes.
What does PÖFF mean to you?
For me, PÖFF is a star in the November sky, bringing a creative atmosphere to our hotel. PÖFF's quality films have always provided me, my partner and our colleagues, as well as our clients, with a lot of food for thought and the entertainment that is so important on dark autumn days.
For me, PÖFF is also an example of a success story - Tiina Lokk and her team are a role model of how such a large-scale project can be kept alive over many years with limited resources, and how the quality can be constantly improved.
In your opinion, what are the main characteristics of a good film?
A good film is definitely characterised by the script or the theme/problem it deals with. The acting is important and of course the cinematography, I am thinking in particular of the cinematography, the choice of location and how the cinematographer is able to capture emotions and situations.
The film's music also plays an important role in creating the whole. In the case of an Estonian film, you would expect the film to appeal to an international audience.
Which films do you plan to see at PÖFF?
I think I will go to the cinema about 15 times during PÖFF, as I have done in previous years. I would like to see films that reflect the challenges of today's world, as well as films that reflect what has happened in the past but have received less attention. Some entertaining films are definitely in my programme too! I'd also like to see some films that have already won awards at festivals and are expected to be a big success.
