Where Is My Son?
A wedding shimmers in the summer heat. Then a son vanishes, and one family’s secrets begin to surface.
The house is alive with wedding preparations. On a hot summer day, food is being laid out, music fills the air, and Gulnaz (Danagul Temirsultanova), a strong-willed mother of three, is determined to give her daughter Ainara a beautiful Kazakh wedding. Then someone notices that Meirim, her youngest son, is missing. At first, there is hope for a simple explanation. But hours pass, calls lead nowhere, and the celebration slowly gives way to fear. As relatives and friends are drawn into the search, old tensions rise and secrets begin slipping through the cracks.
Dias Bertis keeps this family drama close to its characters, moving between their fear, guilt, and confusion without forcing the emotion. Temirsultanova, familiar from melodramatic and comic roles, is quietly compelling as a mother trying to remain steady while panic takes hold. Her smallest gestures – a look, a pause, the strain in her voice – tell us how quickly certainty can disappear. The wedding music may still be playing, but beneath it, one question grows louder: where is Meirim?
