World premiere
Typist Artist Pirate King
"Typist Artist Pirate King" is an outstanding film by the European producer and director Carol Morley.
This touching movie is inspired by Carol’s research of the diaries and art of the long undiscovered artist Audrey Amiss (portraited brilliantly by Monica Dolan). Morley was inspired by Audrey’s documented experience of the way how she saw and experienced the world, as both an artist and a self-proclaimed ‘lunatic’. The highly gifted director imagines Audrey on an eccentric trip across England, with her psychiatric nurse as her reluctant chauffeur.
For me it was obvious that the world premiere of “Typist Artist Pirate King”, a road movie with plenty of typical subtle British humour, simply had to be a part of my selection. In a nutshell, I would call this the female European version of "Driving Miss Daisy" (1989), as the movie rides on many tonalities.
