Mathilda (Barbara Sukowa), a staunch advocate of strict EU border controls, is suddenly faced with a moral crisis that challenges her core beliefs. When an old friend asks her to hide Malik, a Moroccan immigrant who has entered the EU illegally, she is drawn into a high-stakes situation that forces her to confront her personal demons. As tensions rise, a bombing incident links Malik to a terrorist investigation, putting both of them in grave danger. Meanwhile, Amina, Mathilda's second-generation immigrant assistant, grapples with her own convictions amid the chaos.
"Turning Tables" skilfully interweaves political intrigue with personal conflict, inviting viewers to delve into complex ethical dilemmas in a gripping, suspenseful narrative depicted on an individual and emotional note.
Milani Perera
Angelina Maccarone (1965) is a German writer and director. Originally interested in a career in music, she played the electric guitar and became a lyricist when she was 14 years old. In 1985, she attended the University of Hamburg, majoring in German and American Studies with a media focus. Maccarone has been writing screenplays since 1992. Her “Everything Will Be Fine” (1998) a comedy about two African-German women was shown at numerous festivals and won audience awards in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. “Unveiled” (2005) and “Hounded" (2006) were both celebrated at several festivals and were successful with critics and moviegoers alike. In 2011, she completed a documentary film “Charlotte Rampling: The Look” about the famous English actress and style icon, in which she herself appears as the narrator of her life. Maccarone currently lives in Berlin.
