Things I Never Told You
A funny, subtle, irreverent and engaging dramedy shot in the US that propelled Isabel Coixet’s to fame.
Ann, a cute video camera store clerk, moves to a strange city just to be closer to Bob, her boyfriend. After Bob breaks up with her, she makes a half-hearted suicide attempt. Following a nurse’s advice, she calls a crisis help line.
Uninhibited and irreverent, risky and delicate, this is a dramatic comedy with daring dialogue about loneliness and defeat. When the script was ignored in Spain, it was taken to the USA where it was filmed as an indie film with local actors. A film of great impact, it has paved the way for many subsequent productions and is now a benchmark for the new direction of contemporary Catalan cinema.
Halfway between comedy and drama, romantic to the bone, “Things I Never Told You” launched Isabel Coixet’s international career, revealing herself as a profound connoisseur of lonely hearts and the human soul. Still today, a film that surprises and captivates, seduces and accompanies. Because, in life and relationships, “anything can happen.”
