The Idiot(s)
The story of a woman who saved Fyodor Dostoevsky and became the first woman to set up her own publishing house.
The demons of Fyodor Dostoyevsky – and a woman stronger than the genius: in their adaptation of the biography “The Gambler Wife”, Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert portray a fascinating pair of artists full of depth and absurdity.
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Johnny Flynn) and his wife Anna (Aimee Lou Wood) are spending their honeymoon in a spa town where Ivan Turgenev (Christian Friedel) is also passing his summer holidays. While Fyodor blows the little money they have in the casino, chases other women and resists every creative impulse, in the background Anna pulls the strings. She puts all her efforts into getting her husband to finish his novel “The Idiot”.
The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival.
