The Bone Breakers
In the outskirts of Palermo, a gang of criminals crush people’s bodies with brutal force. This is the “working style” of the improvised criminal organisation which after crushing the body parts of consenting victims simulates fake accidents to collect large insurance indemnities of which only a small part goes to the harmed ones. “The Bone Breakers” is a heated action mafia film by helmer Vincenzo Pirrotta, reminding us of the Italian classics of the genre, which are a part of the heritage of their cinema history.
The director comments: “The dark story of the bone breakers has stayed with me since the morning it entered my thoughts from a news report on the radio and it became like a sickness to be vanquished.”
Which is why I just had to curate this movie, as it’s one of the best films of this hard-boiled genre ever made.
Niki Nikitin
Vincenzo Pirrotta is a playwright, actor and director whose plays have been staged at major theaters and international festivals. His opera productions include collaborations with the Rome Opera House and the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. Among other plays he has directed, "The Eumenides" was selected for the 2004 Venice Biennale. His acting credits include roles in the films "We Believed" by Mario Martone, "The First King" by Matteo Rovere, "The Stolen Caravaggio" by Roberto Andò, and "The Traitor" by Marco Bellocchio. Pirrotta will soon be appearing in the Italian TV series "The Bad Guy" (Prime Video). "The Bone Breakers" marks his directorial film debut.
