“Three existences” that are connected through themes of sexuality, desire, pain, and inheritance.

In 1937, when Sebastián meets Rafael, a prisoner of war, his worldview is shaken. Five years earlier, Carlos is denied entry to his father’s club due to rumours about his sexuality. 85 years later, Alberto, a gay historian, learns about his grandfather’s legacy.

Based on an unfinished work by Federico García Lorca, “The Black Ball” tells the intertwining stories of three men across different eras through the lens of their sexuality, pain, and legacy.

One of the year’s greatest discoveries that won the Best Director Award at Cannes. “The Black Ball” has been selected as Spain’s entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
