Suna
The only way to survive for fifty-year-old Suna is to marry an older man, so she has a roof over her head and something to eat. But being a housewife is not really fulfilling for the strong woman. Getting depressed, she starts secretly drinking to escape the reality of this marriage. Light comes into her life when she meets a new neighbour who happens to be a film critic. His attention and smart conversations suddenly give Suna new energy and positive emotions.
In her second feature film, Turkish director Çiğdem Sezgin shows a beautiful and emotionally engaging portrait of a very strong woman, who is stuck in the old power structures of rural Turkish society. Main actress Nurcan Eren does an incredible performance, supported by a brilliant cast and sensitive camerawork.
