Rosa Rosae: A Spanish War Elegy
Saura creates and recovers more than thirty images, drawings and photographs that he prints, manipulates, plays with and subsequently films, to produce a story which, while re-
creating the Spanish Civil War, could also reflect the horrors of universal conflict, seen through the eyes of a child and his surroundings.

Carlos Saura (b. 1932) was a professional photographer before turning to filmmaking in the mid-fifties. In 1957 he finished studying and got the director diploma. At the same time, he finished his end-of-career short film "La tarde del domingo" (1957). Generally acknowledged as Spain’s leading director of the last four decades, many of his films have won numerous major prizes at international film festivals since the sixties. On January 4th 2022 the director is celebrating his 90th birthday. Carlos Saura is this year’s laureate of PÖFF Lifetime Achievement Award.
