Peegel
The history of Estonian sport through the photographs of Lembit Peegel.
Lembit Peegel is the true grand old man of Estonian sports photography, having devoted his entire life to a single muse. He has been photographing SPORT and life consistently since 1959. Lembit’s sports photographs have always been dynamic and full of life. These are the photographs that, from the 1960s onwards, defined what a good sports photograph should be.
The film follows the headstrong old master’s endeavour to manage and immortalise his life’s work in the age of the market economy, and the obstacles that lie in wait for him along the way. Through Lembit, his encounters, his negatives and the preparations for his solo exhibition, we peek into the history of Estonian sport, which is an integral part of our national history.
