Cinematic culinary delights are in high demand at festivals. One of India’s breakthrough talents Arati Kadav follows up on her successful debut “Cargo” with a flavourfully choreographed musical cooking drama that chops sexism with green chillies. The feminist answer to the French “The Taste of Things”.
The exotically delicious film guides us through Indian cuisine, but layer by layer reveals the unfortunate role of women who only cook, clean, and submit to sex-addicted hubbies. Dance teacher Richa has an instant connection to the wealthy doctor Diwakar but soon finds herself in an overcooked and tasteless happily ever after laced with misogyny, arrogance, and stubbornness. The kitchen has the solution to all problems. So, Richa cooks splendid dishes with love and dedication and refuses to yield to male dominance.

Arati Kadav is a writer and director working in Mumbai. After graduating from film school, she made several short films. Her debut feature, "Cargo" (2019), is a science fiction drama exploring the themes of life, death and reincarnation. It played at 27 film festivals around the world, including SXSW, Bifan, Bafici and Shanghai Film Festival, where Arati was nominated for the Asian New Talent Award. Post "Cargo", she made another short film "Astronaut And His Parrot" that won the Audience Choice and Best Director Awards at the Fantasia festival in 2022. She runs an underground collective called ShortFilmWindow to showcase short films of young filmmakers across the country and has showcased up to 200 short films spotlighting young talent. "Mrs" is her second feature film.
