Low Expectations
A successful young artist’s career derails, forcing her back to her hometown.
At the height of her music career, Maja (Girl in Red singer-songwriter Marie Ulven in her acting debut) falls apart and has to step away from her ambitions. Depressed and broke, she moves back home with her mother and works part-time at a local high school. Far from the spotlight, wrapped in everyday kindness, she slowly finds her way back to life.
“Low Expectations” marks the feature-length debut of director Eivind Landsvik and lead actress Marie Ulven, known as the singer-songwriter Girl in Red. The film was nominated for the Debut Award at Cannes, following Landsvik’s short film “Tits” (2023), which had previously been in competition there.
Among the cast, you’ll recognise Anders Danielsen Lie from “The Worst Person in the World”. Finding his own voice amongst his Norwegian compatriots Joachim Trier and Dag Johan Haugerud, Eivind Landsvik carves out his own path.
