The twists and turns of the underworld. How to leave a world that eats you from the inside?

Having grown up in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Luan knows the underworld and its rules better than any other life. That’s where he’s belonged all his life. Now he wants to get out. The idea is simple. The reality is anything but.

Old ties are not severed by a single decision. Issa has been by Luan’s side since childhood, almost like a brother in a world where loyalty matters more than blood. A new beginning is not like putting on a clean shirt. You can change your address, your clothes and the company you keep, but the old rules remain. The body remembers how to stand. The eyes know who to trust.

Director Nagieb Khaja knows this life personally. He grew up in Copenhagen’s notorious ghetto area, where many children from immigrant families were caught between two cultures, not really fitting into either. Khaja met the real Luan 16 years ago. They developed a friendship that led to a film that is firmly rooted in reality.

The result is a truly captivating journey that keeps the viewer firmly in a dramatic grip. A film that doesn’t just ask why a person doesn’t leave their old life behind. It is much more important to see what is left when he finally does.
