Just Film at HÕFF - Sound Effects Workshop
Just Film is once again visiting HÕFF – this time bringing the sound artists from Orbital Vox to Haapsalu to host an interactive workshop on creating foley sound effects for film enthusiasts.
Foley effects are (synchronized) sound effects added to a film during post-production. These include sounds like footsteps, the rustling of clothes, doors opening and closing, glass breaking, and other sounds that are not recorded on set or need to be replaced later for various reasons. Foley recording typically uses substitutes, since bringing real objects or characters into the studio is often difficult or impossible. For example, heavy rain can be imitated by the sound of frying bacon, horse hooves by clapping coconut shells on stone, and breaking bones by snapping carrots.
The workshop will be led by foley artists who, together with the audience, will create a soundscape for a clip from Oskar Lehemaa’s acclaimed short horror film "Bad Hair". Participants will be able to create sound effects themselves under expert guidance—whether it’s footsteps, scratching, or even the sound of hair growing.
The workshop starts at 11:30 and lasts approximately one hour. At the end, the audience will also get to see the final clip created in collaboration.
