Joe Speedboat
A life-affirming comedy about friendship, love and finding purpose in a seemingly impossible situation.
After an accident, teenager Fransje is left in a coma for several months. When he miraculously wakes, Fransje discovers he has lost the ability to move and speak. His only means of self-expression becomes a diary, while everyday decisions are made for him by the people around him, including his mother and father, who secretly hope that their son will one day recover and life will go on as before. However, Fransje’s life changes completely when Joe Speedboat arrives in their village and takes Fransje under his wing. With Joe’s help, Fransje begins to make sense of his life in a way that previously seemed impossible.

Biography
Sam de Jong studied documentary directing at the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam, graduating with the short fiction film “Magnesium”. He is celebrated as one of the leading filmmaking talents to come out of the Netherlands in recent years. His highly anticipated first feature film, “Prince” (2015), was followed by the international feature “Goldie” (2019). His 2022 film “Met mes” was selected for the Tiger Award Competition.
