Jan Uuspõld Goes to Tartu
Fifteen years ago, Jan Uuspõld went to Tartu. He went to Tartu to play the lead role in “Tammsaare” better than even Mait Malmsten could have ever done. Fortunately, a bus ride to Tartu cost more than the 84 Estonian kroons he had, so Jan started the legendary journey on foot.
Now, 15 years later, we invite all eco-businessmen, philologists, rockers, hippies, actors and directors to Tartu to celebrate the birthday of one of the most significant works in the history of Estonian film. For one night, this carefree dark comedy takes us back to Estonia in 2007, to the heyday of Saku Original and Taisto Buses, when people knew how to take life more easily.
Andres Maimik is a documentary, feature and commercial film director, screenwriter and essayist, born in 1970 in Tallinn. He is a partner at the company Kuukulgur Film. Maimik has taught documentary filmmaking at the Estonian Academy of Arts and Tallinn University. In his works the comedy mixed with the tragedy of the contemporary human condition has attracted younger audiences to his works both documentaries and feature films.
