Father
A tragic mistake destroys a man’s life, isolating him in guilt and shaking his marriage. Can he find a path to forgiveness?
On an unusually hot day, Michal drops off his two-year-old daughter at nursery before heading to work at a company threatened with bankruptcy. Six hours later, Michal realises that he hasn’t left his daughter at nursery at all, but forgotten her in the hot car – but by then, it's already too late.
“Father” masterfully depicts the psychological torment of a young father through an unflinching close-up camera. It is an incredibly well-acted and harrowing film about lifelong guilt, false memories and learning to live again after a tragedy.
This is one of five film projects from last year that PÖFF presented at the Marché du Film in Cannes, one of the world’s largest film markets, to introduce it to sales agents, distributors, and festival programmers.
“Father” had its world premiere in the Orizzonti section at the Venice International Film Festival and was selected as the Slovak entry for the Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards.
