Cinephilia
A living dinosaur of Lithuanian cinema strikes with absurd irony and witty (sometimes sneakily hidden) references to the masterpieces of Kubrick, Polanski, von Trier, Jarmusch, Kafka, Scorsese.
After 20 films in 45 years, Algimantas Puipa cooked up something entirely different, startling, brutally personal. The renowned grand master shoots hilariously provocative cameo for himself, urges legendary Juozas Budraitis to act as his cynical alter-ego, invites other big stars from previous movies, but casts unknown young talents for the leading roles.
Every scene in the film-inside-of-film twists for peculiar, weird, reckless, funny turns. Puipa never hides his crew and vividly plays with surreal dreams, illusions, fantasies, psychotic realities, cinematic riddles. From hectic rehearsals, mystical premonitions, eccentric chats to freaky production, an indecent proposal and a creepy premiere at a cinema.
