Beef
A young rapper must confront her mother to succeed in the world of freestyle.
“Beef” follows the story of Lati (20), an Afro-descendant rapper who dreams of making it in the freestyling battle scene. Since the loss of her father, Lati has found her refuge in music. However, her mother, a Muslim woman of traditional values, disapproves of her desire to be a rapper, considering it dangerous and vulgar. Behind her mother’s back, Lati trains with Judy, a former freestyle competitor shunned by the music scene. Although Judy initially sees her as just another target to exploit for money, over time, she discovers Lati’s genuine talent and decides to guide her toward reaching her full potential. Lati strives to stand out in the competitive world of freestyle battles despite her mother’s disapproval. The tension between them grows when her mother, under family pressure, decides to exhume the body of her late husband, Lati’s father, to carry out a burial in accordance with Muslim rites in their country of origin. Lati faces a difficult decision: follow her dream of being a rapper or please her mother and give up on her passion. In the hustle and bustle of rap, Lati finds her voice, turning her journey into an echo of personal revolution.
