Bad Actor
Actors Sandra Navarro and Daniel Zavala are ready to co-star in a film by a prestigious filmmaker. Casual chats with the crew, friendly conversations, and both careers are finally blooming – they might be on the same page for a difficult upcoming scene. Then, something terrible happens and triggers an inevitable succession of events that no one can avoid.
An old friend of the festival – his debut “50 (or Two Whales Meet on the Beach)” won the Just Film Festival Best Film Award – director Jorge Cuchí does not prevent himself from delving into controversial topics. If his previous film was about teenage suicide, isolation, disaffection, and a strange social media game, then this time he tackles harassment, sexual aggression, and further implications on society. Despite this being only his second feature, he shows a skilful hand trained by a long career in the audiovisual field. Cuchí delivers a thrilling drama with several contemporary topics while captivating the viewer from the first frame.
Fast-paced like a thriller and deep like a social drama, “Bad Actor” drags you into a carousel of situations and emotions, questioning its (and your) position at every turn. “Bad Actor” is a nuanced, incisive film set in the post #MeToo era about consent and the search for truth and justice.
