What happens when after the Wonderland, Alice finds herself in the post-Brexit United Kingdom? Philosophy student Alice’s world is turned upside down on the morning after a masquerade party when her soulmate Rabbit whom she found the previous night has disappeared into thin air without leaving a trace after the crazy night, as befits the mysticism of the 21st century.

As if that was not enough, it turns out that the entire frolicky night has been personally commented on by flesh-and-bone Slavoj Žižek, and not only him. Alice’s three selves are also taken on by the big guns of Slovenian philosophy, Alenka Zupancic and Mladen Dolar.

However, "Alice, Through the Looking" is all but a pale philosophical thought exercise. In order to get the closest idea, you should imagine that you are sitting at a table in a crowded and bustling café, having your eighth consecutive espresso and debating with David Lynch, Woody Allen and Jean-Luc Godard. These are, indeed, big names to characterise a debutante, but in director Adam Donen’s case lesser names are not enough.

Having made history with the world’s first holographic production and as a composer and musician, Donen has now set his course towards feature films and his world premiere has landed straight in PÖFF’s competition programme. It is definitely worth seeing Donen’s kick-off with your own eyes, as he is about to embark on a truly magnificent flight to big stars.
