A stout home brew hits the spot in this hilarious Finnish comedy!

Sisters Taina and Pirkko from the village of Sysmä are known for making the strongest home brew available in the region. Their unfiltered beer, or sahti, as it is called in Finland, is said to be brewed and tastes exactly the same as it did 500 years ago, and is therefore locally in great demand.

When the third sister, Päivi, announces that she is getting married and wishes to have 100 litres of good home brew as her wedding gift, the sisters discover that it is too good not to try it themselves... After a terrible hangover, they must quickly come up with a plan to save the wedding and regain their reputation as the best home brewers in the village.

Teemu Nikki (“Death Is a Problem for the Living”), a prolific filmmaker who is interested in a variety of genres and has a warm sense of humour about the Finns’ national peculiarities, has chosen communication and drinking as the themes of his new film, two activities that reveal the “best” traits of our northern neighbours.

Teemu Nikki (1975) is a self-educated, award-winning filmmaker and son of a pig farmer from Sysmä, Finland. His film “Euthanizer” (2017) was a festival success and the official Finnish Oscar entry for the 2019 Academy Awards. “The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic” (2021) won the Orizzonti Extra Audience Award in Venice. Last year PÖFF screened two of his films – black comedy “Death Is a Problem for the Living” and family film “Snot and Splash”. Nikki has also directed numerous short films and popular series. Nikki’s style is best described as a good-willed yet unapologetic political satire of humanity.
