Friendship unites and overcomes all obstacles.
When Amanda returns to school after the summer break, she's tasked with something she considers a social disaster. She’s assigned to be the special buddy for the new boy in class, Lars, who has Down syndrome. Amanda dreads standing out and fears Lars might embarrass her, especially in front of her crush, Adam. Unexpectedly, Amanda and Lars form a strong friendship, where Amanda feels she can be herself. However, she keeps their friendship a secret at school, leading a double life that ultimately leads her to betray both Lars and herself.
The film is dubbed to Estonian with no English subtitles.
"Lars is LOL" is nominated for the European Film Academy awards in the categorie of European Young Audience Award.
Eirik Sæter Stordahl (1988) is a director and screenwriter. He graduated from the National Film School of Denmark in 2015 with the sci-fi short “In Pieces”. Based in Copenhagen, he works on feature films and series in both Norway and Denmark. Also working in alternative formats, he directed the radio-fiction series “The Thing with Liv”, winner of Prix Europa in 2018, and the film-theatre hybrid “Quarantine” (2020) for the Royal Danish Theatre. “Lars is LOL” (produced by Nordisk Film Production) is his feature film debut.
