Zhannat Alshanova (1987) is originally from Kazakhstan but now lives and works in London and is a writer/director, editor and producer. She graduated with an MA in Filmmaking from the London Film School. Her short films have screened at top-tier festivals – “End of Season” (2018) at Cannes, nominated for the Cinéfondation award, and “Paola Makes a Wish” (2019) at Sundance, among others. The 2020 short film “History of Civilization” won the Pardino d’argento award at Locarno Film Festival. In 2021, Alshanova founded her independent production company, Accidental Films, aiming to explore new narratives in Kazakh cinema. She is an alumna of Berlinale Talents, TIFF Filmmakers Lab, and the Locarno Directing Workshop.
