“The Domain” is the chronicle of a Portuguese family. Following the tracks of the protagonist - João Fernandes, owner of one of the largest estates in Europe on the southern bank of the River Tagus in Portugal, the film depicts his life from his childhood until old age. It is fascinating to observe the historical, political, economic and social transformations in the life of the country from the 1940s, through the Carnation Revolution until the present day. We see João as a fair boss to his workers, yet as a husband and father he does not seem to deserve much appreciation.
The story unfolds at a slow pace, with great photography and elaborate sequence-shots.
The film has already achieved a well-deserved selection as the Portuguese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards
