Synopsis

Celebrated Dardenne Brothers are masters of social dramas. Latvian director J. Kursietis (“Modris”) obediently marks all necessary dots, adapts unhappy events from real life, mixes black humour (if you know Polish national swear words) and delivers much better film than rewarded mighty Belgians.

A poor Latvian daydreamer leaves the family and looks for better paid job in Belgium. Oleg wanders from one betrayal in butchery to another disappointment till unpleasant encounter with seemingly trusty Polish guy Andrzej, who illegally builds and decorates houses. Cynical gangster promises brightly fulfilled future, but you know that every dream has a price. Vigorously embodied by Lithuanian actor V. Novopolskij jobless Oleg is manipulated and blackmailed in to modern slavery. There is no simple return from there.
