Universal coming-of-age drama about many first times in newly independent country is precisely recreated and believably casted. Latvian teenagers rebel to experience and taste everything what freedom has to offer. Kurt Cobain’s suicide inspire to listen “Nirvana” and throw away “Ace of Base” posters. Parents are shocked to hear heavy metal and freaky underground stuff just around the corner. Janis is fourteen and can’t stay calm on turbulent streets of Jelgava in a company of rude friends. He accepts the challenge to chase charming sweetheart Kristine, who of course has more suitors.
J. Abele’s sophomore feature is based on bestseller written by J. Jonevs and nostalgically jumps back to past with older alter ego, who isn’t eager to repeat same errors in the flashbacks.
